Take action — support the Gender Bias Elimination Act (H.R. 3514).

A recent National Academies report, Beyond Bias and Barriers: Fulfilling the Potential of Women in Academic Science and Engineering, found that women repeatedly face biases in academia in the science fields, and that these barriers to success discourage them from careers in these areas. In response to this report, Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX) recently introduced the Gender Bias Elimination Act (H.R. 3514).

2007 North Carolina Child Health Report Card

Today, Action for Children North Carolina and the North Carolina Institute of Medicine are pleased to announce the publication of the 2007 North Carolina Child Health Report Card, which demonstrates that while North Carolina’s efforts to ensure positive health outcomes for children and youth have shown improvement in many areas, there is still cause for concern.

Workshop for Young Women in High School and College

NC State Women’s Center, Saint Augustine’s College, and Shaw University are sponsoring this area’s first Running & Winning workshop on Saturday, November 3, 2007, at Peace College in Raleigh. This interactive workshop is designed to give young women in high school and college the opportunity to explore public service as a career. During the session, participants will meet with local women office holders and explore their own leadership abilities.
