Yesterday, the AAUW NC Board made a decision to cancel our Annual Conference scheduled for March 27-28, 2020 at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Asheville.
This week, it became clear to the Board that after Governor Cooper declared a State of Emergency on March 10, we were faced with making a decision about the Annual Conference coming up in two weeks. Our attendees are primarily in the 60+ age group, the age the CDC believes to be in extreme risk of serious illness. In addition, people will be coming from all corners of North Carolina and the opportunities to contact the virus and/or unknowingly spread the virus are likely.
Therefore, the Board met by conference call last night and made a decision to cancel this year’s Annual Conference and Annual Meeting. We are working on alternative plans to bring some of the content of the conference to you during the coming weeks.
It is with a heavy heart I bring you this message about needing to cancel this year’s Conference. Pat Ashe, Conference Chair, and the Western branches prepared an amazing list of speakers and interest sessions. And, we all will miss the performance of Sisters of Mine, especially commissioned by AAUW NC for this 100th year anniversary of the 19th Amendment.
Thanks to all who registered and planned to attend. AAUW NC is most grateful for your support and your interest in supporting equality and equity for the women and girls of North Carolina.
President, AAUW North Carolina
