AAUW awarded more than $3.7 million in fellowships and grants this year, and North Carolina is fortunate to have six recipients of AAUW Fellowships and Grants in the state for 2013-2014 and one more affiliated with an NC institution.

American Fellowships:

  • Kathleen Crosby, Ph.D, American literature and American Studies, UNC-Chapel Hill
  • Penny Sinanoglou, Postdoctoral, History, Wake Forest University
  • Jessica Wilkerson, Ph.D., History, UNC-Chapel Hill

Career Development Grant:

  • Maryam Funmilayo, M.A., Health Education and Promotion, East Carolina University

International Fellowship:

  • Candice Jansen, M.A., Documentary Arts, Duke University (from South Africa)

Selected Professions Fellowships:

  • Melissa Guzman, M.S., Aerospace Engineering, NC State University
  • Michelle Oboite, M.D., Medicine, Duke University

  • Ellen Black Winston endowment is partially supporting Melissa Guzman.
  • Shirley S. and Karl S. Quisenberry endowment is partially supporting Christine Malsbary, publication grant, Education, Univ. of Hawaii.
  • Sandy Bernard/Alice Ann Leidel endowment is partially supporting Darcy Regan, M.Eng, Chemical Engineering at Cornell
  • Rosalynd Nix Gilliat International Fellowship is partially supporting Candice Jansen.
  • The L. Adelaide and M. Elizabeth JohnsonBeth NorrisNorth Carolina Golden Annivesary, Enola G. Retherford, Stine J. Schaffmeyer, and the newly completed Charlotte (NC) Branch research and project endowments are supporting Maryam Funmilayo.
  • Crosby, Sinanoglou, and Wilkerson are being supported with endowments raised by other states.
