PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE: Heather is responding to member requests by scheduling our October speaker, Sheri Slater with Onslow Senior Services. Sheri will fill us in on programs in place to help care for elderly relatives. A number of us in our branch are currently handling this responsibility and could use all the help that is offered. We look forward to Sheri’s remarks.
The New River Officer’s Spouse Club Open House went well last month. Evelyn and I spoke to many interested/interesting women. We also placed an ad in the Club membership directory to keep AAUW in front of the members the entire year. We hope they will join us for some of our events.
Connie and Evelyn

OUR NEXT MEETING: Monday, October 22, 6:30 p.m., the old parsonage house of First Baptist Church, Hwy 24. The house is located right behind Nationwide Insurance, on the left coming from Jacksonville and Hubert. Program: “Caring for the Elderly” by Sheri Slater, Onslow Senior Services. We are going to open this program up to the public, but seating is limited. If you are bringing guests, please let Connie or Evelyn know.
TREASURER’S REQUEST: If you have not paid your dues yet, they are seriously in arrears. Treasurer Katharyn asks that you please send your check for $69, made out to AAUW/Jacksonville Regional, to Katharyn Thayer, 203 Hodges St., Morehead City, NC 28577. If you wish to add a voluntary contribution of $30 for the Legal Advocacy Fund and Educational Fund, you may do so. If you have questions, please contact Katharyn at
SCHOOLS PROJECT: We are trying a slight variation on our schools project this year. Last year we learned that some children have no school bags for carrying books and are using paper bags instead. With some research we have found a way to make school bags with the school’s name and “Donated by the American Assn. of University Women/Jacksonville Regional Branch”. Northwoods Elementary School is our pilot school for this project. We will keep you posted about making the bags and distribution.
