Happy Halloween! On October 31st, the Ruthless Vote Getter RV once again rolled into Raleigh, NC as part of a campaign to promote the ratification of the ERA amendment (28th) across the Southern States. This brightly painted RV spearheaded a multi-car Halloween VoterCade to help keep ERA ratification as well as the woman’s right to vote issues on the minds of individuals who clapped and shouted as the parade made its way across town. This car parade was organized by NC ERA Alliance, and Vote Equality with many of the other women’s organizations (AAUW-NC, NOW-NC, LWV-W, etc.) joining in to show their support. Several of the supporters proudly signed their names and organizations with markers on the side of the RVG van. With their car horns honking, purple, gold and white balloons attached to white ribbon streamers flying in the wind, signs promoting the passage of the ERA prominently displayed on the sides of vehicles, and shouts and other horns honking along the route, the car parade wound its way through the back roads of Raleigh, and past a few historic landmarks like Shaw University, the Memorial Auditorium, and the State Farmers’ Market before pausing for a brief time of socialization among participants in the parking lot of the North Carolina Art Museum.. When the General Assembly meets again for its long session, the hope is that an ERA ratification bill will once again be introduced in both the House and the Senate, and then come to the floor for a vote. This could be the year that North Carolina will proudly become the 39th state to ratify this important amendment!
